Digipak

Below is my Digipak for the Empty Gold music video aimed at females from the ages of 16-24.
Software's my group and I used to create this digipak include Lunapic, DaFont, Powerpoint and Photoshop.
We took inspiration from Richard Dyers 'Star Image' theory by having Tayla look directly at the camera. We used Dyers theory for both our music video and ancillary tasks as this meant that both tasks were familiar with each other and the consumers.

Final Magazine advert

Below is my magazine advert. I have decided to use Tayla's face staring directly at the camera to create 'star image'. I have also decided to use the same colours and font as on my digipak and music video so consumers can make the link between them.

Front cover for the DIgipak

Today we all came into school to get some more work done on our digipak. After first trying (and failing) to use Adobe Photoshop we decided to use microsoft word to finish the task as we were more familiar with this software.
After many complications trying to remove the background we found the website: http://editphotosforfree.com/photoapps/remove-background-from-image-online/ which helped us learn how to remove the background. However the background wouldn't remove completely and so we were left with many white specs. We feel as if we have got a lot done in toady's session however we still have a lot more to do before we are finished and so will hopefully come back and do some more soon.
Below is a photo taken of Tara trying to figure the problem of the background out.

Digipak analysis

Below is another digipak analysis. I found it very interesting as the whole digipak was abstract which creates a sense of mystery and ambiguity.

Digipak analysis

Below is another Digipak analysis for the band Mental Disciplines song "Fallen Stars'. The digipak has a very space look linking to the name of the song. This relates to Andrew Goodwin's theory of linking Lyrics to visuals.

Showcase feedback

Below is a video of the audience feedback that we got from the showcase. Overall we were very happy with the feedback that we were given as many said they liked our music video and understood the narrative. It was also interesting to hear audience members opinions and the improvements that they would have made on it as it will all be helpful for the evaluation. It also gave us a lot to think about if we were ever to make a new music video.

Digipak album cover

We have decided to do our digipak as a group as we feel we work well together and will be able to produce a much better quality digipak if we work together than if we work separately.
We have decided to call our album 'Shadows' as we feel that it reflects the concept of our song 'Empty Gold'
The photo below is the image that we have decided to use for our album cover as we feel that it shows her confused state. We also like this shot as you can see the shadow of Tayla which links to our album name 'shadows'.

Audience feedback on music video

Below is a video of some audience feedback on our music video. Overall we are happy with the feedback we have gotten and have found it very useful as we will be able to use the feedback- positive or negative- when we come to do our evaluations.

Music video- first draft

Below is the first draft of our music video 'Empty Gold.' We still have to change a few of the shots and add in the end shot but hopefully this shouldn't take long.

Editing- Flipped shot

My group and I decided to flip some shots of Tayla to further the sense of Taylas confusion that we are trying to create in our music video. We used the 'flip video' tool on iMovie to create this effect.

Justin Timberlake Mirriors music video

Below is Justin Timberlake's music video for mirrors. My group and I found this music video inspiring as mirrors are used to portray his inner emotions. This links to our music video as we have also used mirrors to show the protagonists struggle with her inner conflicts. The opacity changes at the end of the music video revealing a women staring back at him representing his desires. We have also used opacity on some of our shots so that the black smoke is over our protagonist. This further emphasised our protagonists confusion.

Magazine advert analysis- Jessy J

Below is another analysis I have done; this time on the magazine advert for the album 'Who you are' by Jessy J. I think that the combination of the monochrome colours makes the music video look very professional; a look we will try to go for in our magazine advert.

Lungs magazine advert analysis

For the 'Lungs' album the target audience is 16-24 years of age as the album cover is floral, natural and unique which is generally what this age range like to see in a music album. This album cover links to the Indie music genre as there is only one person on the cover which makes them individual as opposed to a group. Indie also uses very natural themes, e.g. nature, water etc. This is shown in the album cover as there's pictures of trees and flowers in the background. The title of the artist is at the top of the album which grabs the consumers attention and instantly tells them who the album is by. The album name is also written in big capital letters which again tells the consumers important information about the album. This album cover highlights vulnerability as the women has her arms open and the viewers can see her lungs which may draw their attention to the album as it portrays a more sensitive side. The album cover also tells the consumers that the album is not only on CD but is also on Deluxe CD, Vinyl and Digital. Overall I think that this is a very effective album cover as the audience learn who the album is by and whats its name is just by glancing at it. The album image is also memorable and tells the consumer what kind of an album it is going to be which further makes the album cover effective.

Idea change update

After we decided to change our music video from 50% forest scenes and 50% indoor scenes to 99% indoor scenes (only a few short outdoor shots) we have needed to film some more indoor shots so we have enough to cover the whole of the music video. We filmed on Wednesday and we are hopefully planning to film again in the next few days to get the opening shot. Below is a vlog of the changes we have made and why we decided to make them.

Media filming

Today we finished filming in one of our locations. We decided to film using another mirror to highlight the protagonists insecurities and continue the theme of mirrors that appear throughout our music video. After scrapping the forest scenes my group and I realised that we didn't have many lip singing shots left so we therefore decided for Tayla to lip sing the whole song in different places so we have a variety of shots to use for our music video.
Below are a few pictures from today's filming...

Circle editing

During Fridays lesson my group and I faced the difficult task of editing the footage so we had Tayla in a circle. This is because iMovie would only allow us to put Tayla into a rectangle. This meant that we had to use Adobe Premiere to achieve the effect we wanted. However when we tried to create the Circle on Adobe Premiere the circle was too small and had a flat edge on the bottom. Thanks to a youtube tutorial, however, we have been able to fix this problem and now hopefully have the effect that we want.
Below is the tutorial video...

Album covers

Below are the images of Four Indie magazine for music albums. In each of them the name of the artist is enlarged and at the top of the magazine whereas the name the album is written in smaller letters at the bottom of the magazine. This could be because the artists name straight away tells the consumers who the album is by whereas the name the album doesn't give as much information away. This means that the product will sell faster as people will clearly be able to see who is the album is by when they look at the magazine.

Inspirational Music videos

Two music videos that I have found inspiring for my groups music video are Taylor Swifts 'Safe and Sound' and 'Out of the Woods' music videos. Both music videos are set in the woods which is similar to our music video as many shots are in the forest. Both of Taylor Swifts videos also have a dull colour palette which is what my group and I are using for our music video.

In this music video 'Safe and Sound' the protagonist is trying to find herself which is similar to our music as the protagonist is trying to find out how she moves on from her past. The protagonist also looks lost and confused in the music video which we hope is how our protagonist will appear.

In the 'Out of the Woods' music video the protagonist, Taylor, is leaving a boy. This storyline is similar to our storyline as in both music videos the protagonist is moving on. Both our music video and 'Out of the Woods' also feature water which is a common trait in Indie music videos.
